The Chicago Cubs placed right-handers Jake Arrieta and Dan Winkler and infielder Nico Hoerner on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
In corresponding transactions, the team recalled left-hander Kyle Ryan and right-hander Keegan Thompson, and selected infielder Ildemaro Vargas from Triple-A Iowa.
Arrieta, 35, has a right thumb abrasion and his designation is retroactive to Monday. He is 3-3 with a 4.31 ERA, 12 walks and 28 strikeouts in six starts this season.
Winkler, 31, has right triceps tendinitis and his designation is also retroactive to Monday. He is 1-0 with an 0.84 ERA, 12 strikeouts and seven walks in 13 relief appearances.
Hoerner, 23, has a left forearm strain. He is batting .389 with six doubles and seven RBIs in 11 games and has made starts at second base, shortstop and the outfield.
Ryan, 29, has allowed three hits and no runs in 2.2 innings in two previous appearances with the Cubs this season.
Thompson, 26, made his major league debut Sunday at Cincinnati and tossed a scoreless inning.
Vargas, 29, was on the Chicago roster from April 13-16 and went 0-for-2 in two appearances.
